About CoffeeB
Rethinking the capsule
The coffee capsule was invented in Switzerland in 1976. It was a brilliant innovation whose success has turned into a global environmental problem. Every year, billions of capsules are thrown away. Now, forty years later, Switzerland has found the solution in a new, revolutionary idea: a capsule system - completely without capsules.
Sounds much easier than it is.
“Developing a capsule system without a capsule sounds a bit like a moon landing without space travel. It’s basically impossible,” a member of the team commented.
A few years later, they were finally ready to launch their 100 % compostable Coffee Ball. A thin protective film consisting entirely of raw materials from natural sources ensures that the coffee retains its full aroma. Carefully selected coffees, the long-standing roasting experience of Café Royal and skilfully balanced blends ensure unparalleled coffee experiences.

One team, many attempts
The deceptively simple concept of the Coffee Ball is the product of an immense amount of imagination, teamwork, and courage. And, of course, many failed attempts. “We tried countless ideas, failed countless times but always got up and tried again,” one team member recalled.
Despite their setbacks, they never lost sight of their vision of making a positive change with a capsule-free system.
